5 Tips For Packing and Moving Quickly

Category Moving

Moving can be very stressful and it often overshadows the excitement of moving to a new town or new home.

Ideally, you would want as much time as possible to get everything prepared, but this is not always the case, especially if you have a full-time job.

Unfortunately, most of us don't have professional movers who answer to our beck and call, so you will probably have to do the job yourself, too!

Hopefully, you have already roped your friends and family in to help you, but if not, here are 5 helpful tips for your next move:

#1 - Create a packing station

Most of the time that you waste is spent looking for things - scissors, boxes, tape, you name it.

Pick a place in the house and create a packing station: it doesn't have to be an entire room, but it has to be a place that it out of the way and devoted to packing, binding, and taping boxes together.

Next up, stock the packing station with the boxes in various sizes, lots of tape, bubble wrap, and newspapers.

Keeping everything together will prevent unnecessary running around and it will eliminate the chance of things getting lost.

#2 - Get two different colour rubbish bags

If you are using rubbish bags as part of your packing process, it would be a good idea to work with two different colours: use the one colour to label things that are going to be thrown away and the other colour to label the things that are moving to your new home.

A lot of space can be saved if clothes and linen are packed in bags instead of boxes. They can easily be squeezed in between the boxes if there is space left.

#3 - Start filling drawers

If your friends or family members are unable to assist you with the packing and you decided to hire professional movers, consider filling any type of drawers.

Your dresser drawers and your study desk drawers can be filled with anything from clothes to small tidbits.

This is a great way to save space because it is one less box that has to be carted around. Fill them as tight as possible and secure the drawers to ensure that they don't fall out when they are busy being transported to the new home.

#4 - Be mindful of weight

One of the trickiest things during the moving process is to ensure that the boxes are sturdy and that they don't break.

Many boxes aren't strong enough to handle the weight of its content and they end up breaking or falling apart.

Not only is this annoying but it wastes time and it can damage your personal belongings. An easy solution is to pack heavier items in smaller boxes and lighter items in bigger boxes.

This will ensure that the boxes are not too heavy to move and it will prevent them from breaking and causing damage to the items inside the box.

#5 - Don't get hung up on clothes

When you move, the first instinct you have is to take your clothes off the hangers and fold it up.
Rather than doing this, use wardrobe boxes. Wardrobe boxes have specifically been designed to transport the wardrobe as it is.

It saves time and effort, and your wardrobe is safer during transit. This means that you can simply leave the clothes on the hangers whilst it is being transported to the new home.

So all you have to do when you get to the new home is to take the wardrobe out of the box and your clothes will already be hanging.
