Are the Tshwane Water Restrictions cause for concern?

According to a late January report from the Utilities and Regional Operations MMC, Daryl Johnston, water shortages in Pretoria are becoming a major concern. This follows an announcement from Rand Water forcing the implementation of restrictions throughout Gauteng.
The MMC then confirmed that restrictions would also occur within key areas throughout the Tshwane municipality. Specifically targeting "high-consuming meters." Much like loadshedding, these restrictions have been implemented "as a last resort" to help restore reservoir levels to a normal level.
"The current Rand Water system capacity has dropped from 60% to around 30%, which is very serious, and in fact critical. If the situation does not change, the bulk water supply system of Rand Water will continue to drop and eventually collapse." - Daryl Johnston
Areas that will be affected
The MMC further indicated that affected areas would include Waterkloof Ridge, sections within Monument Park, Grootfontein, and several other blocks, including L, M, K, LKK and H. These areas have already been affected despite the recent downpours, which may have aided in restoring reservoir capacity. However, there has been no indication that water restrictions will be halted.
The municipality asks residents to observe water-wise practices
From the first of February, Rand Water has specifically called for residents to use water as sparingly as possible. One of their stated concerns is that Thswane, alongside other affected municipalities, cited consumption as being way below the recommended capacity.
To help alleviate the pressure, consider the following tips for practising waterwise techniques without sacrificing comfort.

Reducing your shower time - The average person showers for 10 minutes daily, and plenty of people let the water run while washing their hands or brushing their teeth. Consider halving your shower time to 5 mins and turning the faucet whenever you're not using water

Laundry loads - Consider waiting until you have a full load before starting a new washing cycle.

Leakages - If left unchecked, leaks can contribute to an average of 15 litres of wasted water daily. The sooner you get those fixed, the better.

Gauteng plans to build a mega reservoir to help offset the growing demand.
