PETS AND SILVER LAKES GOLF ESTATE

Category General Information

Are dogs and cats allowed in Silver Lakes Golf and Wildlife Estate? The answer to this question is yes. Both dogs and cats are permitted, however in accordance with municipal bylaws, no more than three dogs or three cats are allowed.

In the past however the above answer was not that simple for new owners and tenants of properties in the game reserve or as it is colloquially known, "Phase 3".

More information on this below.

In 2000 the game reserve area was incorporated into the Silver Lakes Golf Estate.  At the time the developer intended it to be kept pet-free because the enclosed area would be home to various species of free-roaming game. With this in mind, the purchase agreements between the developer and first buyers included a clause stating that owners would not be allowed to own dogs or cats. However, this clause was not included in either the title deeds or rules at the time. In subsequent sale agreements, the no-pets clause was excluded and fell by the wayside.

Then in 2009 it was decided to rectify the situation and a rule was introduced stating the following:  "A full record plus photographs of pets at a Unit as from the date on which the Rules are adopted must forthwith be provided to the Association as a transitional arrangement. No further pets shall be allowed".  This rule pertained only to properties in the game reserve. The rationale behind this was to protect the wildlife and birds, and try to make the area a dog/cat-free zone which had been the intention from the start. However it was recently decided to remove this clause from the rules.

Pets including dogs and cats can be owned by tenants and owners living in the game reserve situated in Silver Lakes Golf and Wildlife Estate. Considering the area is a game reserve due regard should be taken to keep dogs within the confines of the property and cats should wear a collar with a bell thereby exercising responsible pet ownership.
