History

Silver Lakes Golf and Wildlife was developed in 1992 on a 256-hectare farm owned by well-known veterinarian, Dr Stefanus Lombard. Dr Lombard had bought the farm described as the remaining extent of portion 7 of the farm Zwartkoppies 364 in 1976 for R290 000. The farm was used by Dr Lombard to breed prized-pedigree Brahman cattle.

In the late 1980's the zoning of the farm was amended from agricultural to residential and in 1990 Amaprop Townships Limited (a division of Anglo American) bought the property from Dr Lombard. The construction of the Clubhouse began in June 1992 while in August of the same year Pebble Beach Drive was opened by Mr Danie Hough, Administrator of the Transvaal. The official opening of the Clubhouse took place on 10 July 1993 and was officiated by futurologist and author Mr Clem Sunter, at the time Chairman of the Gold and Uranium Division of Anglo American.

First social event

The first social get-together at the Clubhouse for Silver Lakes' residents took place on 3 November 1993. A light dinner was served costing R20 per person. Over the past 20 years, many events and celebrities have been hosted at the Clubhouse including many popular entertainers.
