Spring Trends for Your Home

Category Interior Design

Spring has finally arrived, and with it comes a new wave of lively stylistic trends to keep your home exciting. Whether shapes and colours are what you're curious about or how you can turn your spring home into something practical, we're here to give you the pointers you need to get into the season of liveliness.

Lighting - Keeping it Natural

The term 'daylighting' describes using windows and skylights to bring natural light into one's home. The method is more than just environmentally sustainable; it's cost-effective and brings a sense of calm despite its potential for vibrancy. Those with a sharp eye for reflective lighting would know how to maximise the presence of natural light in their homes and bring the space to life by letting the light be seen.

Sunlight has been used as a way of keeping time in ages long past, but its positioning continues to provide us with a rudimentary means of telling the time of day. Implementing such an idea into interior design can make the concept of time feel very much alive as the day progresses.

Hints of the Natural World

One way to amplify the welcoming atmosphere of a naturally-lit space is by bringing in the aesthetics of the outside world, ideal for matching earthy tones with non-artificial lighting. Such materials can come from a wide array of natural resources that include bamboo, wood, and different brands of stone. Let's cover each in brief detail:

  • Bamboo - A sturdy and versatile material, bamboo can be used in shelving, wall and ceiling fixtures, ornaments, and large decorative poles.

  • Wood - With many different styles and types at your disposal, wood can be used to create a wide variety of flooring, furniture, and cabinetry, making it a favourite for enthusiasts of interior design.

  • Stone - Granite countertops offer a range of patterns and colours to bring a room together from an aesthetic standpoint, and stacked stone walls offer something dynamic yet muted in their presence.

All of the listed materials are recyclable. This means that including them in a living space will not only make your home feel welcoming but also sustainable.

Bold Statements in Patterns & Décor

Spring is when significant changes are made in our lives and nature. If we turn our gaze to the outside world, we'd see that the flowers have bloomed and that there is no restraint on the various colours on display. If we turn our gaze into our homes, it's only fitting that it should follow suit, so what can we do to live up to nature's standards?

The patterns we use in our tiles, decoration, and cushioning should contrast one another and the space around them. Wavey, free-flowing lines and curves should contrast rigidness in a living space, and a distinction between subtle monotones and ecstatic colours can bring a lovely flavour of prominence to your home.

Colour & Pastels

To keep in line with the bold themes and patterns to display, dramatic colours and high saturation are coming around this season. Shades of green are trendy now, especially for those looking to implement the previously mentioned natural elements into their homes. In this case, look at shades such as mint green, sea green, and aquamarine for a luminescent and vibrant contribution to your living space.

Pastel colours are a recurring trend for the spring period. Each year they bring a selection of subtle monochromatic tones that help to contrast the typically loud colours associated with the season. This year, in particular, there's a demand for high-contrast pastels that will compliment the warmth and homely vibe of spring home décor.

Mixing Vintage & Modern Aesthetics

The season we find ourselves in is associated with renewal and change. The term renewal implies starting over and bringing something back for another chance of seeing fruition. Change, on the other hand, implies something brand new. This ties neatly into blending renewed vintage aesthetics with the latest modern trends.

Implementing aspects from the past and the future can do wonders to tell your personal story through meticulous interior design. Finding a balance between the two can create a harmony of textures that blend to create a space of timelessness and character, so if you want to introduce some of your flavours to the mix, don't hesitate to get creative with what will work, whether it's a part of your history or if it's brand new.

Functional Spaces - Coffee Station

The concept of a multifunctional space is a reasonably novel one and has returned for the time of spring to coincide with the easy-going nature attributed to the season. Adapting a space to suit multiple purposes helps to free up more space and creates convenience in our day-to-day lives. So with that in mind, let's see what we can do to create a charming coffee station. No sane individual can live without one, after all.

The first thing you'll want to establish, however, is what you'll want on display. Your coffee machine should be front-and-centre, accompanied by your favourite coffee beans or capsules. Items such as cups, coffee grinders, kettles, and spoons are all necessities, but finding a unique way of storing them (jars, baskets, special containers) can help the station better integrate into your space.

Once you have all the bells and whistles, you can decide where to take your coffee station. Search for a space that hasn't been occupied, ideally somewhere practical. Feel free to implement your coffee station in the kitchen, but have it close to your living quarters or workspace to get the most out of its presence. As for the station layout, keep all the items you'll be using often at the forefront of the station so they're easily accessible. Wherever you situate your station, ensure it's in plain view for your guests so you can be right and ready to offer them a cup.
